Vinca minor L.

The main results of fundamental and applied research:

- Methods for obtaining nano- and microcontainers for low-molecular biologically active compounds (doxorubicin, imatinib methanesulfonate and its analogues, hydroxycinnamic acids, etc.) have been developed. Hydrogel nanoparticles based on folic acid conjugated chitosan for targeted delivery of imatinib methanesulfonate have been designed. The nanoencapsulated form of imatinib provided not only sustained release, but also a decrease in IC50 in 9 times compared with free imatinib (0.95 μM versus 8.5 μM), as well as increasing the range of active concentrations. Gel-like (protamine/pectin)n and (protamine/pectin-Ag)n microcapsules differing from the known polyelectrolyte analogs in high (up to 50 wt.%) capacity for the active substance (doxorubicin hydrochloride or imatinib methanesulfonate) have been obtained. Hydrogel particles based on chitosan and pectin containing plant growth regulators (ferulic, trans-cinnamic and naphthylacetic acids) have been prepared. The prospect of their use both for pre-sowing seed treatment (for example, corn, radish, wheat) and for introduction into the cultivation media of suspension Vinca minor L cultures has been shown.

- A method and physicochemical foundations of the technology for the formation of honeycomb films with tailored characteristics based on nitrocellulose, polylactide and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate by self-organization technique have been developed.

-  A technique for fabrication of ultrathinin (<100 nm) films based on synthetic and natural polymers suitable for modification of various surfaces in order to impart desired properties to them (wettability, biocompatibility, antibacterial activity, etc.) has been developed. Ultrathin films can also be used as scaffolds for cells, providing their effective adhesion in a viable state.

-  Highly porous biocompatible scaffolds based on pectin and chitosan-pectin cryogels, suitable for immobilization of stem cells in a viable state and exhibiting an antiadhesion effect in vivo have been created.

- A technique for the "green" synthesis of Ag nanoparticles with controlled physicochemical characteristics by reducing silver nitrate with polysaccharides (pectin, chitosan, alginate) has been developed. It has been established that the synthesized nanocomposites exhibit pronounced activity against bacteria of the genus Escherichia, Bacillus, Pseudamonas, etc. The obtained nanocomposites in terms of acute toxicity with intragastric, intraperitoneal and inhalation routes of administration are low-hazard, don not have skin-irritating, resorptive and irritative effects. Polysaccharide-Ag nanocomposites have a synergistic effect with organic antibiotics and can be used against resistant strains.

- A technique for the synthesis of chitosan conjugates with hydroxycinnamic acids has been developed. It has been shown in cooperation with the Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus that seed encrustation with chitosan conjugates under optimal growing conditions provided a significant growth-stimulating effect on higher plants, as well as a decrease in the intensity of oxidative processes, stabilization of the proline level, and an increase in peroxidase activity under salt stress.

- A technique for modification of cysteamine-functionalized zinc oxide nanocrystals (size 3–4 nm) with carboxylated dextran has been developed. ZnO quantum dots functionalized with thioglycolic acid have been synthesized. The regularities of formation of Langmuir-Blodgett mono- and multilayers of poly-4-vinylpyridine, higher fatty acids (stearic, behenic, melissic, etc.), 2,4-geneucosandione and dimethyl ester of octadecylmalonic acid and their tribological properties have been established.  A device for studying the physicochemical properties and fabrication of mono- and multilayer films from amphiphilic organic compounds and/or inorganic nanoparticles has been developed and patented. Protective and lubricating coatings for precision friction units based on melissic acid with molybdenum disulphide particles have been obtained. A method for creating a wear-resistant superhydrophobic coating from silicon oxide nanoparticles and organosilanes was proposed. Techniques for modification of polyurethane films with coatings based on organosilicon compounds by centrifugation have been developed.

The laboratory provides the following services for enterprises of the Republic of Belarus:

- visualization of surface features and evaluation of its elemental composition using atomic force microscopy (MultiMode NanoScope III, Veeco, USA) and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive analysis (JCM6000-PLUS, Jeol, Japan);

- analysis of emulsions and suspensions (determination of the size of the dispersed phase and the value of zeta potential) by dynamic light scattering (ZetaSizer Nano-ZS, Malvern, UK);

- carrying out tribotechnical tests of thin (from 2 nm and above) films at low loads (from 10 mN to 1 N) on a microtribometer of the reciprocating type RPT-02, as well as at loads of 2-10 N on a Ball-on-Disk TRB-tribometer S-DE-0000.
